Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
What is EFT?
EFT, also known as tapping, is a powerful mind-body technique that combines elements of cognitive therapy with gentle tapping on specific acupressure points. The practice helps calm the nervous system, reframe limiting beliefs, and release stored stress or trauma from the body. By tapping while focusing on a specific thought, feeling, or memory, you send signals of safety to the brain, allowing old patterns of fear, anxiety, and stress to lose their intensity.
EFT uses gentle fingertip tapping on meridian points (similar to acupuncture points, but without needles) while bringing attention to a specific challenge. This process helps:
Calm the amygdala (the brain’s stress center).
Reduce the body’s fight-flight-freeze response.
Rewire the brain to respond differently to triggers.
Create space for new beliefs, self-worth, and resilience.
In essence, EFT teaches the nervous system: “You’re safe now. You can let this go.”

How EFT Differs from Traditional Therapy
Traditional talk therapy focuses primarily on verbal processing. While this can be very effective, some stress and trauma responses are stored in the body, not just the mind. EFT bridges that gap by working directly with the body’s energy system and nervous system.
Therapy (with a licensed professional) is often about analyzing, processing, and resolving the past.
EFT (with a trained practitioner or coach) is about self-regulation in the moment, reducing distress, and rewiring emotional responses so you can move forward.
EFT is not a replacement for therapy, but a complementary tool that helps you feel calmer, safer, and more in control during everyday challenges..
